I Started Blue Water Dories to do what I love, building boats and fishing. I have been building boats since I was a teenager working at my father's boatyard on the California coast. Dad taught me everything I know about boat building, repair and design. I built my first boat when I was 17, it was a small fishing boat, a 14 foot dory. I continued in the boat trade for many years in southern California building, repairing and refurbishing many kinds of boats in the LA harbor area.

I was lured to Idaho for many reasons, fishing of course was one of them. I loved fishing the rivers, but the waters were too high in the spring . So I hit the lakes and found myself in a float tube. I enjoyed float tubing but felt something was missing. Since I am a boat builder, I built myself a small fly fishing boat. Then I built another one for a close friend, and then another and another. Soon all my friends were fishing in them too, happily catching bass, bluegill, crappie and trout. That's how Blue Water Dories got started.

I am very pleased to be able to continue the family trade and to offer a fishing boat that is practical, well built and fun to use. My friends and I have been enjoying these boats for many years here in Idaho and I know you will enjoy them wherever you fish.
